Vision of country’s first govt has been materialised: Amu

MEHERPUR, APRIL 17, 2019 : Awami League (AL) Advisory Council Member Amir Hossain Amu today said the goal of the country’s first government, which took oath in Mujibnagar on April 17, 1971 to materialise dream of Bangabandhu, has already been accomplished.

“Foundation of rural economy has been significantly strengthened as allowances for elderly people, widows, children, differently able people and pregnant women have launched,” he said while addressing a discussion marking the Mujibnagar Day here as the chief guest.

The government is providing houses to the families who have only land, but do not have the capacity to build a house on their land, the veteran Awami League leader said.

The beggars are also being rehabilitated, Amu said, adding that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been awarded internationally as recognition of her great initiatives.

“Our valiant sons liberated the country through nine-month-long war. (But) Khaleda Zia stigmatized the freedom fighters by giving freedom-fighter status to non-freedom fighters and making anti-liberators as ministers,” he added.

Seeking international recognition of 30 lakh martyrs in the Liberation War, Hanif said a vested quarter tried to wipe out the history of Liberation War creating controversy over number of martyrs of Independence War.

“But the history of Liberation War could not be wiped out, no matter how much efforts are put to this end,” the AL leader said.
