President invites Sheikh Hasina to form govt

DHAKA, Jan 3, 2019 : President M Abdul Hamid today invited Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina to form the new government as her party achieved landslide victory in the 11th Jatiya Sangsad election held on December 30.

The head of the state invited her as she called on him at Bangabhaban here this afternoon after few hours of being reelected the chief of the AL Parliamentary Party for the fourth consecutive term.

During the meeting that lasted more than an hour, the President congratulated Sheikh Hasina for her party’s historic victory in the polls, President’s Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin told.

“The people, through the December 30 polls, gave their verdict to the spirit of 1971 Liberation War and Freedom Struggle as well as development and progress of the country,” Abdul Hamid said.

He hoped that the country, under her leadership, would be turned into a “Sonar Bangla” as dreamed by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The President wished her good health and overall success.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by AL general secretary Obaidul Quader and party’s advisory council members Amir Hossain Amu and Tofail Ahmed.
