PM: Talented teachers are needed to boost quality of education

The importance of attracting talent to teaching to boost quality of education in the country has been stressed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Teachers’ education and training programmes should be provided with special emphasis,” she said at the inaugural ceremony of the E9 Ministerial Meeting on Education 2030. “It is important to attract competent individuals to teaching.”

The E9 meeting has been held to discuss necessary policies for countries to achieve the UN’s education related ‘Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) – 4’.

The prime minister said the government was open to incentives to motivate talent to teaching profession and that the creation of a qualified teaching workforce was seen by her as a challenge.

Hasina said that human rights and the peace and stability of the world was currently facing threats from terrorism, armed conflict and violent extremism.

But, she said, innovation, understanding, long-term planning and the correct attitude could deal with these problems.

“Our curricula is being reformed by us and learning materials focusing on peace building in mind,” she said.

The inaugural ceremony of the E9 meeting was held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Dhaka on Sunday. For the first time the meeting is being held in Bangladesh.
