DHAKA, Jan 22, 2019 : Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the government is sincere about implementation of the 9th Wage Board Award for journalists and employees of newspapers and news agencies.
“The government is very much sincere to implement the 9th Wage Board Award… We began working on it immediately after the new government assumed office,” he told reporters before a meeting with journalists’ unions at his secretariat office.
The meeting on the 9th wage board award issue was held with the leaders of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, Dhaka Union of Journalists, Bangladesh Newspaper Employees Federation and Bangladesh Federal Union of Newspaper Press Workers.
“The government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is media-friendly. It began its work from the first day in office to implement the 9th wage board award for journalists,” said Hasan. He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for reconstituting the cabinet committee on the wage board award.
He said a revolution has been taken place in the media sector under the Awami League government. “Around 30 private television channels are now operating in the country, while more got approval. Besides, some nine crore people are using internet.”
Information Secretary Abdul Malek, Additional Secretaries Azharul Haque and Mizan-ul-Alam, among others, were present in the meeting.
