DHAKA, Oct 16, 2018 : Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has decided not to increase gas price considering the overall situation.
“We find no reason to increase the gas price in the present situation,” BERC Chairman Monwar Islam told a press conference here today.
Mentioning that distribution companies appealed for upward adjustment of gas price calculating import of 1000 mmcfd LNG gas, he said but at present only 300 mmcfd LNG is being supplied.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has also waived supplementary duty on import of LNG, he said, adding that for this reason BERC has decided not to increase gas price right now.
Other commissioners of BERC were present at the press conference held at the commission office in the city.
BERC member Mohammad Abdul Aziz said the price hike appeal of the distribution companies will be considered when the 1000 mmcfd LNG will be supplied to the national gas grid.
The distribution companies are Titas Gas Transmission & Distribution Company Limited (Tatas Gas T&D), Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited (BGDCL), Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System Limited, Pashchimanchal Gas Company Limited, Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited and Sundarbans Gas Company Limited (SGCL).
