7 DU students get Bangamata gold medal, scholarship

DHAKA, Aug 9, 2018 : Seven female students of different departments
of Dhaka University (DU) were awarded ‘Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib
Memorial Gold Medal, Scholarship,’ said a DU press release today.

Farhana Yasmin of Urdu Department was conferred the ‘Bangamata Sheikh
Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial Gold Medal’.

Besides, Sumona Akhter Sumi and Jannatul Ferdaus Irin of Marketing
Department, Nasrin Jebin of Peace and Conflict Department, Mst Muhfiqa Jahan
of Information Science and Library Management Department, Shaolin Shaon of
Television, Film and Photography Department and Umme Salma of Finance
Department received the ‘Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial Gold
Medal, Scholarship’.

Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall of Dhaka University (DU)
organised the programme titled “Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial
Gold Medal, Scholarship, Memorial lecture and Discussion” on Wednesday
evening on the occasion of the 88th birth anniversary of Bangamata, wife of
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

DU Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md. Akhtaruzzaman gave away the gold
medals and cheques for the scholarships among the awardees as the chief

DU Treasurer and Trust Fund President Prof Dr Md. Kamal Uddin addressed
the programme as the special guest.

Renowned fiction writer and novelist Selina Hossain presented Bangamata
Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial lecture on the occasion.

Paying rich tribute to the memory of Bangabandhu and Bangamata, DU VC
Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman said, “Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib
played a vital role in the success of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in
leading the country towards the independence struggle.”
